Charminar: In the latest turn of events following State government's plan to shift it to Erragadda, the doctors and patients of Ayurvedic hospital located on the campus of Government Nizamia General Hospital were allegedly forced to vacate the premises by the students of Unani. A complaint of which was later made in the Moghalpura police station by the Superintendent of the Hospital against those who were involved in the act.

As per the complaint lodged in the police station, Dr D Sobha Rani, Medical Officer, and G Yadagiri, Pharmacist, Sai Soumya, House Suregon, and Sri Charan, Security Guard, around 150 students from Unani College obstructed their duties. "They entered from back door of male ward and started shouting and removing the beds with force and sent out all in-patients. And then they removed all the beds from the cots," stated the complainant.

"Dr Sobha Rani asked the students why they were behaving like that, and they replied that we are also doctors and insisted that the Ayurveda patients get admitted in the Unani Hospital. They also told the duty doctor to go outside and tore off the case sheets and other records of the patients," a staff said.

The doctors demanded security for the patients as well as staff of the hospital and also action against the culprits.

BJP leaders who took up the issue also demanded action against the culprits. "They pushed Dr Sobharani madam out and pushed all patients out and have locked all the doors," said Ponna Venkata Ramana, BJYM leader.

It may be mentioned here that BJP has been urging the government to drop the plan of shifting the Ayurvedic hospital in Charminar since residents of the Old City have been heavily dependent on the facility for many years. Recently, a delegation led by senior BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya submitted a representation to Health Minister Eatala Rajender. Earlier, the CPI city council also opposed the shifting of the Hospital to BRKR Government Ayurvedic College in Erragadda 'on pretext of carrying out repairs.'
