Khammam: Political activity and official programmes like inaugurations and laying of foundation stones for developmental works became zero in the erstwhile Khammam district for the last few days. Thanks to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, which made both ruling and Opposition parties' leaders and people representatives, to go to the capital city, giving relief to common public and officials.

Interestingly due to lack of official programmes, mass gatherings have been reduced, putting a stop to the spread of coronavirus, observed a medical and health official.

Ruling party Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, MLAs Kandala Upender Reddy, Haripriya and Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, Khammam MP Nama Nageswara Rao, Wyra MLA Ramulu Naik and former MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy along with their followers shifted their camp to Hyderabad and making vigorous election campaign in their respective divisions.

Even some important Congress and BJP leaders were also entrusted with some divisions in Hyderabad and they were busy in campaigning. CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka, BJP Khammam district Chief Galla Satyanarayana, senior party leaders of both the parties were busy campaigning in Hyderabad for GHMC elections.

With this development, the political activity reduced drastically in both districts and wore a desert look. Both the districts were always busy with political activities after the TRS government came to power, but for last few days no political hungama and inaugurations. District and village-level officials are welcoming the brief gap and focusing on their regular works.

One official from Khammam district said, "After a long gap, we have time to spend some time with families and also complete regular work, which is pending due to hectic busy schedule." Even people also felt some relief from regular busy political activity and official programmes.

One TRS mandal leader said that they have no tome even to do personal works for a long time. but now GHMC elections helped us as Ministers, MLAs and other VIPS went to Hyderabad, he added.
