Nellore: Nellore City Municipal Corporation Mayor Devarakonda Sujatha on Monday assured residents that the systematic construction of new drainage channels across critical areas will permanently address long-standing sewage and waterlogging problems in the city.
Laying the foundation stone for the construction of a new drainage channel in the Old Petrol Bunk area under the 53rd Division, Mayor Sujatha highlighted that the project provides a permanent solution to sewage overflowing onto streets, which had long plagued local households due to inadequate drainage infrastructure.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor stated that under the guidance of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Dr Ponguru Narayana, the civic body has approved multiple targeted drainage projects across various divisions to ensure smooth wastewater disposal throughout the city.
She instructed civic officials and contractors to maintain high quality standards and complete all development works strictly within the stipulated timeline to prevent public inconvenience.
In addition to drainage infrastructure, Mayor Sujatha addressed acute drinking water shortages reported by residents of the neighboring TIDCO housing complex.
Taking immediate action, she directed municipal engineers to drill 10 new borewells within the complex premises and implement comprehensive supply measures to deliver adequate drinking water to all resident families.
