Krishna district gears up for Covid vaccination drive
- Initially 40,000 health workers, doctors, frontline warriors and others to get vaccine

Vijayawada: Krishna district administration is gearing up for the Covid-19 vaccination to more than 40,000 health workers, frontline warriors, police, revenue and other departments' staff and the people with more than 50 years of age.
As part of the State-wide preparedness programme for the vaccination, a two-day training programme was started in the district. The first day training class was conducted at the IMA hall in Vijayawada for the medical and health department staff working in Vijayawada and Nuzvid revenue divisions. The second day training class will be organised in Machilipatnam on Wednesday for the medical officers and the staff working in the revenue divisions of Machilipatnam and Gudivada.
Though there is no clarity when vaccination will be started, but the district administration is fully gearing up for the mega programme.
Vaccination is a big task and requires planning and preparedness. Storage of vaccination, training to the staff on procedures to be followed is very important in the vaccination programme. Medical officers, computers operators, staff nurses, Asha workers and others will be given adequate training.
Covid guidelines will be followed during the process of vaccination.
Krishna district medical and health officer Dr Suhasini said the vaccination will be given in three phases in the district. Health workers, doctors, hospital staff, frontline warriors, police, revenue and other departments' staff will get in two phases, she added.
In the third phase, people above 50 years of age and people below age of 50 years with co-morbidity will be administered vaccine, said DM and HO Dr Suhasini. Vaccine will be stored at 145 places including the government hospitals, area hospitals, PHCs in the district.
The vaccination centre will have staff of one doctor, pharmacist, ANM, Anganwadi worker and Asha worker.
District immunisation officer Dr Sermishta supervised the training programme at the IMA hall in Vijayawada on the first day Tuesday. She said registration of name is must to get vaccine. She informed that 'Covins App' will be made public for the registration of the names of people, who wish to take the vaccine shot. She said people, who have taken vaccine have to stay in the observation room for some time for observation so that treatment can be made immediately, if they notice any side-effects due to vaccination.
She said the method of vaccination is the administration of injection and arrangements are underway for it across the district. The date of the arrival of the vaccination doses to the district is not yet known.
Joint Collector L Siva Sankar visited the training class at the IMA Hall in Vijayawada on Tuesday and spoke to the officials.
World Health Organisation senior medical officer Dr Harshit and other officials from the district Medical and Health department participated in the training programme.
