Vijayawada: Kanchikacharla police seized gutka packets worth Rs 70 lakh and 10 kgs ganja near Kanchikacharla village during a raid on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted raid near Jujjuru road and noticed that gutka packets worth Rs 70 lakh transported in four cars.

Superintendent of Police M Ravindranath Babu told reporters on Sunday the main accused was identified as Dasa Sekhar. The SP said Dasa Sekhar purchases gutka from Telangana and Karnataka and sold them to traders in Andhra Pradesh.

The police also seized 10 kg ganja, four cars, seven mobiles and cash of Rs.13,500 in the raid and arrested four persons, who are part of the gutka mafia run by Sekhar. Two accused Pasumarti Bhaskar and Konatala Harish belong to Khammam district of Telangana.

The five-member gang involved in gutka smuggling for a long time.

SP said smuggling of gutka was a serious crime and the culprits will be punished severely. He warned that rowdy sheet will be opened and PD Act will be invoked against the five accused.
