Migrants' Buses: Political War Erupts Between Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Yogi Govt

Lucknow: The war of words through an exchange of letters, between the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh and the Congress party, over the latter's offer of a thousand buses to transport migrant workers, escalated on Tuesday. The UP administration accused the Congress party of providing a list of vehicles which had numbers of two-wheelers, three-wheelers and cars. It asked the Congress to place 500 buses for transporting migrants at the disposal of the District Magistrates of Noida and Ghaziabad by 12 noon on Tuesday.

In response to Congress general secretary Priyanka Vadra's offer of 1000 buses to ferry migrant workers, the UP government on Monday sought a list of vehicle numbers along with relevant papers, details of drivers and conductors.

The Additional Chief Secretary (Home) of the state on Tuesday, asked Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's private secretary to provide 500 buses to the district magistrate Ghaziabad by 12 noon and 500 buses to the district magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar. The UP government's letter seeks to call the Congress parties bluff by setting a 12 noon deadline to the Congress offer of 1000 buses for migrants.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's office, responding to the UP government letter sought time till 5 pm on Wednesday Tuesday to place the buses at the disposal of the district magistrates of Ghaziabad and Noida, as sought by the UP government.

Further, it asked The UP government to be ready with a list of migrant workers, as also route plans for 1000 buses which would facilitate smooth movement of those stranded outside their home state.
