The Prime Minister said that it is of utmost importance to ensure the dignity and safety of women. In a post on Twitter, PM Modi pointed out that women excelled in every field. Together we have to build a nation where the focus is on the empowerment of women he added, with emphasis on equality and opportunity.

Union Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Smriti Irani observed that justice was delayed but it has finally been delivered. Smriti Irani added that this is a message to all those who think they can commit crimes against women and escape the law.
The four death row convicts Mukesh Singh, Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma and Pawan Gupta were hanged at 5:30 AM on Friday in the Tihar Jail. They were later pronounced dead by the doctor.
The accused were sentenced to death for gang rape and murder of 23-year-old physiotherapy intern named Nirbhaya (fearless) to retain anonymity and dignity of the victim. The paramedical student was brutally gang raped, assaulted and thrown out of a moving bus on the night of December 16, 2012.
Six people were arrested in the case and one of them, Ram Singh allegedly committed suicide in Tihar Jail, while a juvenile was released after he served three years in a correctional home.
