Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha are likely to be adjourned sine die after the passage of the Finance Bill. Leaders of political parties met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at which the proposal of having to adjourn the Lok Sabha after the Finance Bill is passed 12 days ahead of its term, was discussed. Parliament is likely to be adjourned on Monday afternoon, media reports suggested.

The news agency, ANI put out a tweet in this regard;

PM Modi in his televised address to the nation had said that parliament will not be curtailed, but there seems to be a change of mind on the part of the government, partly because the BJP MP Dushyant Singh's case sent a wave of fear among parliamentarians.

Dushyant Singh, along with his mother, former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje, attended a party at which Bollywood singer, Kanika Kapoor, was present. The singer turned out to be a COVID-19 patient. Dushyant's test results have reportedly returned negative.

MPs in both houses are also concerned that there has been a sharp rise in the number of cases of COVID-19 and that the parliament was continuing to function.

Opposition MPs belonging to Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress (TMC) expressed their concern over keeping the parliament in session in view of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha will also be adjourned sine die after the Finance Bill is passed. Chairman of the Upper House, Venkaiah Naidu, held a meeting with floor leaders of all parties earlier on Monday.
