Tamil Nadu govt announces full lockdown in four districts including Chennai from June 19
The Tamil Nadu state government on Monday has taken a crucial decision in the wake of the coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu state government on Monday has taken a crucial decision in the wake of the coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu. CM Palani Swamy has decided to impose more strict regulations in all four areas where the epidemic is on the rise. According to Tamil Nadu government sources, a full lockdown will be imposed from June 19 to 30 in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur districts. These districts are under the Chennai Metropolitan Commissionerate.
CM said that there will be a full lockdown for the next two 12 days following the latest lockdown. There were no exemptions in those twelve days. Tamil Nadu has the second-highest number of cases in the country. As of yesterday, there were 44,661 positive cases in the state. More than 430 people lost their lives. Of those infected, 24,547 were recovered and discharged.
On the other hand, the state's public health and medical experts team have urged the government to tighten the already-ongoing lockdown, as cases continue to increase in the state. The expert committee met for about an hour with CM Palaniswami and senior dignitaries at the secretariat. Expert committee member Dr P Kugananantham said that there were many suggestions on how to strengthen the regulations to prevent coronavirus from spreading to the public.
Here are guidelines
1) Essential Services like medical and pharmaceutical would run accordingly.
2) Rental cabs and auto services are not allowed except in emergency.
3) Government offices shall render services with one third of employees.
4) Employees who live within containment zones are entitled not to come to work.
5) Banks will operate on June 29 and 30
6) Vegetable and grocery stores operate from 6 am to 2 pm.
7) Hotels and restaurants operate from 6 am to 8 pm. However, only parcels are allowed.
8) Rations, essentials and mobile shops operate from 8am to 2pm.
9) No tea shops are allowed.
10) Electronic and print media are allowed.
11) Amma canteens and community kitchens would be functional.
