While monsoon showers have already begun cooling down Kerala and the two Telugu States, Tamil Nadu is still grappling with hot conditions. Here too, the liquor outlets were reopened with much fanfare and the consumers crowded the shops like any other city in the neighbouring states.

Yet, the employees of TASMAC, the government body under which liquor is being sold are allegedly fleecing the desperate boozers by charging Rs 50 more than the MRP for providing cold beer.

If the customers protest, they are palmed off with lukewarm bottles on an extra charge of Rs 20. Adding insult to injury, it is also reported that the policemen shoo the complainants away when they approach them for redressal as the liquor shop owners tell them the customers are misbehaving and creating protocol problems.
