Brahmapur: Fake job racket busted

Brahmapur: The Odisha Police on Friday busted an organised job fraud syndicate in Ganjam district and arrested four persons, including three women, for allegedly duping several unemployed people on the pretext of providing jobs in different sectors, an officer said.

Fake appointment letters, a fake ID card, several documents of the victims, including matric certificate, Aadhaar card and others, cash Rs 25,000 and three mobile phones were seized from the accused persons, said Sabyasachi Malla, inspector-in-charge of Chhatrapur police station.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed the racket has duped several youths in Chhatrapur, Khallikote, Sorada and Golabandha areas in Ganjam district. Initially, we have identified seven victims with cheating amounts of around Rs 3 lakh,” the police officer said.

The accused people projected themselves as government employees to the victims and cheated some persons in Khallikote area, police said. Malla said a case was registered and investigations are underway.

It was alleged by a complainant that he had sent Rs 60,000 to the accused online, after they promised to get his wife a Grade IV job in a block office. An appointment letter and an ID card were given, which later proved to be fake.
