The Civil Engineering Department of SRK Institute of Technology, Enikepadu, organised a seminar on `Designing Earthquake Resistant Structures’ on Monday. Speaking at the seminar, seismic expert K Ramesh explained the latest advancements in earthquake resistant technologies.

He also dwelt on precautions to be taken by the builders in construction of skyscrapers in earthquake-prone areas to mitigate the loss of life in case of an eventuality. Conduct of soil test, laying of a strong foundation and use of light material play a key role in construction of earthquake resistant highrises, he said.

SRK Foundation chairman BS Appa Rao, secretary BS Sri Krishna, principal K Bala Showry, Head of Department of Civil Engineering T Satyanarayana, programme coordinator Sri Lakshmi and other faculty members were present.
