Kakinada: The East Godavari District is the only district after Krishna to implement the digitalised Identity Cards for the auto drivers in the state, said the district Superintendent of Police Vishal Gunni. He participated as the chief guest in the digitalised ID cards distribution programme at Ananda Bharathi Grounds here on Monday as part of the road safety week celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, the SP said that there are 6,000 auto drivers alone in the Kakinada. In the first phase, the police had been providing the digitalised identity cards to 2,500 auto drivers. The remaining auto drivers would also get their ID cards soon, he explained.

He informed that if any person scans this QR (Quick Response) code in the ID card, all the details of the auto and the driver would appear in that code. Details such as the driver’s name, auto number and the authorised documents of the auto and the pending e-challans, if any would appear, he said.

He appealed to the auto drivers that they should follow the traffic rules to minimise the accidents in the district. He also appealed the auto drivers that they should register in the ‘Chandranna Bima Yojana’ scheme and said it would be a great boon for the auto drivers if anything happens to them while on duty. This scheme would help their dependents. SB DSPs S Murali Mohan, K Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy, Traffic DSP KVV Satyanarayana, Traffic CIs, SIs and others participated.
