Kakinada: It was India that taught mathematics to this world, said a teacher of mathematics VSV Ramana Murthy. He participated as chief guest at Mathematics Day celebrations at BC Girls Welfare Hostel at Jagannadhapuram here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Srinivasa Ramanujan was one of the greatest mathematicians in the world. He explained interesting puzzles in mathematics to the students.

Children’s Science Congress coordinator Kesari Srinivas, in his address, said that they had planned the programme to create awareness on mathematics to the hostel students. Organising such events would wipe out the fear of mathematics in children’s minds. He also said that everyone should pay attention to mathematics.

Teachers S Srinivas, MVS Rama Krishna, Hostel Welfare Officer Rajeswari participated in the event. A quiz competition was organised to the tenth standard students on mathematics and the organisers distributed prizes to the winners P Kusuma, B Ganita, K Adi Lakshmi, K Rupa, A Chinnari and S Mani.
