Eluru: Leaders of CPI and CPM burnt an effigy of BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for ‘cheating’ people of Andhra Pradesh over Special Category Status here on Monday.
CPI district unit secretary D Prabhakar and CPM leader Ch Baburao, charged TDP and BJP for fooling people over SCS for four years. Though they came to power after promising SCS, they later ignored it. Going by the attitude of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, who conceded to special package instead of SCS and Union Minister Rajnath Singh claiming Naidu as their friend, it seems the SCS issue was an issue limited to TDP and BJP, they criticised.
In Bhimavaram, Left parties, JSP and Forward Block leaders and activists staged a dharna on Monday, condemning the ‘mischievous’ attitude of NDA government on fulfilling promises made at the time of state bifurcation. B Balaram of CPM, M Sitaram Prasad of CPI, L Krishna Murthy of Forward Block and others also spoke.
