Govt ignoring the ongoing strike by the weaversA ktr2 Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) legislator K Tarakarama Rao on Saturday appealed to the government to exempt powerlooms from Fuel Surcharge Adjustment (FSA) charges. Addressing a news conference at the Assembly media point, he questioned the administration for ignoring the indefinite strike by powerloom owners and weavers in Sircilla town of Karimnagar district. It has been thirteen days since they started the strike. He said production at powerloom units has come to a grinding halt with the closure of 34,000 polyster and cotton looms in the textile town of Sircilla from March 5. Around 15,000 weavers working on the powerlooms and other allied sectors such as sizing, warping and dyeing were being denied of employment following the closure of looms. KTR informed that he brought this issue to the notice of the Chief Minister and urged .him to fulfil the demands regarding the powerloom sector. The TRS legislator pointed out that around 78,000 families in the State which included around 34,000 in Sircilla (Karimnagar) and 20,000 in Nagari (Chittoor district) were earning their livelihood from this sector. "Government is making claims that it is offering subsidies to this sector. But on the contrary, it is posing a lot of hardships on the name of taxes," charged the TRS leader.
