Agitators continue protests after saluting national flag
The movement in support of Samaikyandhra continued on Thursday. The government employees and students first hoisted national flags to celebrate the 67th Independence Day and then continued their agitation. The RTC buses were confined to the depots as the employees continued their indefinite strike on the third day. Another two YSR Congress Party MLAs embarked on an indefinite fast while the indefinite fast of another MLA continued for the third day. All the four MLAs of YSRCP submitted their resignations to the Speaker.

Hyderabad: The movement in support of Samaikyandhra continued on Thursday. The government employees and students first hoisted national flags to celebrate the 67th Independence Day and then continued their agitation. The RTC buses were confined to the depots as the employees continued their indefinite strike on the third day. Another two YSR Congress Party MLAs embarked on an indefinite fast while the indefinite fast of another MLA continued for the third day. All the four MLAs of YSRCP submitted their resignations to the Speaker.
Two Telugu Desam MLAs, Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao and Dhulipala Narendra, postponed their indefinite fast by two days in view of the sudden demise of former MP and senior TDP leader Lal Jan Basha in a road accident. They would revive their fast on August 17. There was no rush of pilgrims in Tirumala and the devotees were able to have common darshan of the Lord within three hours while it took one hour for special darshan. The devotees were having repeat darshan of the Lord as the time lag was small.
In Kadapa district, the two MLAs of the YSRCP embarked on an indefinite fast protesting against the failure of the Congress party to allay the fears of Andhra and Rayalaseema people before announcing the division of the State. Rajampet MLA Akepati Amarnath Reddy and Railway Koduru MLA Srinivas Reddy launched their indefinite fast on Thursday while the fast of their colleague and Rayachoti MLA G Srikanth Reddy entered the fourth day.
In Kurnool, the NGOs continued their protest demonstrations in front of the Collectorate with umbrellas braving rain. In Anantapur, the additional Joint Collector expressed his solidarity with the Samaikyandhra agitation by sitting at the fast camp at the mandal office. There were heated arguments between the agitating lawyers and the police when the lawyers tried to go towards the Collectorate to prevent the Revenue Minister Raghuveera Reddy from hoisting the national flag on the occasion of Independence Day. The police stopped them and the lawyers squatted on the road and continued their agitation.
In Srikakulam, the agitators wore the masks of prominent national leaders and freedom fighters and raised slogans in support of Samaikyandhra. Women staged a demonstration with empty pots at the Old Bus stand and expressed their anger at the division of the State. In Nellore, the Samaikyandhra JAC leaders warned the ministers and elected peoples representatives that they would be prevented from coming to the district if they do not support the Samaikyandhra demand.
