On Day 73, the Samaikyandhra movement was going strong across the district on Friday, with protestors deciding to intensify it further. The Central Congress leaders’ assertion that the State would be bifurcated has incensed employees, teachers, students and political leaders who have resolved to continue the movement until the Centre rolls back its decision on Telangana.
Although electricity department employees and teachers agreed to temporarily call off their stir, some of the employees’ unions are continuing with their protests. In Kurnool town, staff of the social welfare department and medical department took out rallies to the Collectorate and burnt an effigy of Sonia Gandhi and Digvijay Singh after conducting a mock funeral. As a result, traffic was disrupted for several hours and commuters had a harrowing time.
