The hike in bus fares is meant to offset the impact of the steep rise in operational costs
Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) Managing Director and Vice-Chairman AK Khan said on Friday that the Corporation was considering providing more bus services to the IT corridor for a safer transport of the IT employees.
The RTC had already been providing transport facility to the employees of over 52 IT companies on hire. It was operating 383 buses between Gachibowli and IT corridor, he said. “We are working out modalities and will soon announce it within a week,” he said.
The APSRTC was ready to rent out buses and also provide bus passes to the employees, if the organisations concerned were willing to avail the services.
He justified the hike in bus fares, stating that the exercise was meant to offset the impact of the steep rise in operational costs.
The hike was mainly due to the rise in diesel price. He said that the diesel cost had gone up by Rs 18 since April 2012, which resulted in increase of operational costs by 20-25 per cent.
Khan assured the commuters that no undue burden would be put on them. In addition to the losses incurred during the Seemandhra agitation, the RTC was burdened by an additional Rs 900 crore loss because of the hike in diesel prices.
