Botsa: High-security number plates must for AP vehicles
Botsa: High-Security Number Plates Must for AP Vehicles, High-Security Number Plates Issue. All motor vehicles in Andhra Pradesh will have to carry tamper-proof high-security number plates from December 1, Transport Minister Botsa Satyanarayana said today.
All motor vehicles in Andhra Pradesh will have to carry tamper-proof high-security number plates from December 1, Transport Minister Botsa Satyanarayana said today.
"We will issue a notification in this regard shortly," he told reporters after an official review meeting of his department in Hyderabad.
The Minister, however, did not elaborate.
Official sources said Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation would be the nodal agency that would oversee the installation of high-security number plates.
In early 2012, the Supreme Court had issued a stern warning to the state on the high-security number plate issue, saying it would be treated as contempt if its orders were not complied with immediately.
However, the state could not implement the Supreme Court orders as it was unable to identify the agency to supply high-security number plates.
Tenders for this were cancelled at least three times because of allegations of corruption.
Now, the government is said to have finalised one agency that will take up the job under the aegis of APSRTC, the sources said.
High security registration plates are tamper-proof and meant to aid law enforcement agencies in tracing vehicles that are involved in crimes
