Parliamentary Panel Meets SCR Officials, Security for Women Passengers. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways would soon recommend special measures for stepping up security for women passengers.

Hyderabad: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways would soon recommend special measures for stepping up security for women passengers.
The Committee chaired by TR Baalu met here with authorities of South Central Railway (SCR). It focused on security of women passengers in suburban train (MMTS) services. The Suburban Passengers Committee members were also involved in the meeting for inputs.
They decided to take up following security measures: An easy to remember 24X7 centralised helpline number which should be prominently displayed inside the coaches, station premises and circulating area in English and regional languages. To set up ladies compartment in the middle of the train instead of at each end and post RPF personnel near the ladies compartments to discourage anti social elements.
A perfect coordination system between rail and state transport department was also decided so as to have an uninterrupted hassle-free travel for the passengers to their respective destination. Earlier, the Committee also visited Kolkata and Mumbai. And on November 15 and 16 they would visit Bengaluru and Chennai respectively. After all the survey, the report would be submitted to Parliament in the ensuing session, said authorities.
