New Delhi: Seemandhra Congress leaders are divided on the proposal for Rayala-Telangana. With the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh now inevitable, the Congress leaders from Rayalseema went into a huddle in the Capital on Tuesday. But consensus eluded them.

Some of the Rayalaseema Congress leaders are toying with the idea of Rayala-Telangana, which appears highly unlikely. Within the Congress, too, there are not too many takers for the proposal, with a majority of them.

While Union Minister of State for Railways Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy and Anantha Venkatram Reddy favoured the proposal for Rayala-Telangana proposal, it was opposed by former Union Minister Sai Pratap, who expressed himself against it. Sai Pratap said he is committed to keeping Andhra Pradesh united.

The Rayala-Telangana proposal came to light with Majlis-e-Itthehad-ul-Muslimeen President Asaduddin Owaisi, who opposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, supported Rayala-Telangana, if division was inevitable. It entailed tagging Kurnool and Anantapur with Telangana, while the remaining two districts of Rayalaseema – Kadapa and Chittoor – remaining with Seemandhra.
The Congress High Command has also taken a stand against it, as the Congress Working Committee (CWC) Resolution is for Telangana with 10 districts and Hyderabad as the Capital.
