Hyderabad: The political leadership of Telangana on Wednesday rubbished Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s claims that the Seemandhra leaders had a major role in developing Hyderabad.

Addressing the inauguration of Telangana Electrical Employees Welfare Association (TEEWA) at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram, Prof Kodandaram asked whether a person who sets up a shop in a locality starts his business with the intent of developing himself or the locality.

Strongly criticising Kiran Redy’s developmental claims, he wondered whether the increase in the drop-out rate of children from schools in Telangana, increase in fluorosis cases in Nalgonda, scarcity of drinking water in tribal areas of Adilabad, non- provision of ex-gratia to farmers incurring losses, high rate of malnourishment, farmers committing suicides and the government’s inefficiency in giving land to the poor; could be considered as his idea of development of Telangana region.

He clarified that those were the very reasons why the people of Telangana have been demanding for separate state. He questioned why the CM didn’t resign but continued in office, when his own party had taken a decision to form Telangana state.

TRS leader Harish Rao said that the Chief Minister had himself declared that Telangana was inevitable, by hurriedly laying foundations in Chittoor for a 5,800 crore water project and by sanctioning a second medical college in the district on Wednesday.

He pointed out that even if 10 per cent of the huge amount being sanctioned by the Chief Minister had been given to solve the fluoride problem in Nalgonda and for prevention of fatal diseases taking more than 200 Adivasi lives annually, the people of Telangana would have appreciated him.

Criticising the CM’s demand of proroguing the Assembly, he questioned, how he could do that without the approval of the cabinet. He requested Nadendla Manohar, the Speaker of the Assembly, not to heed to the Chief Minister’s blackmailing tactics.

He made it clear that if a State has to be divided based on Article 3, then there was no need to amend 371 (d) and that the Constitution could be amended based on Article 4.

Raghu, TEEWA leader, who presided over the meeting, stressed on the need to save 3,000 junior line men, who were issued lay-off notices recently and also to save the State power companies from getting privatised in the State.
