With the Cyclone Helen, the second tropical storm to hit the State in six weeks, slowing down and changing its course on Thursday, the Met department predicted that it would now cross the coast on Friday near Machilipatnam and likely to wreak havoc on Krishna, West and East Godavari districts. The official machinery was bracing itself to take steps to move people along the coast to safer places.
Great Danger Signal No.10 was hoisted at Machilipatnam, Odarevu and Nizampatnam ports and Signal No. 9 in Kakinada Port, while Signal No-3 in Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram, Bheemili and Kalingapatnam port.
West Godavari Collector Siddharth Jain told the media that they had identified 37 villages spanning eight mandals as worst hit areas and alerted all the departments. He said control rooms were set up at the Collectorate and divisional headquarters.
The Narsapur division might be the worst affected. Jain called upon people to move to safe places and co-operate with officials.
East Godavari Collector Neetu Prasad asked officials to be alert. Farmers worst hit by cyclone Phailin are worried about crop loss.

In Krishna district, Collector M Raghunandan Rao directed officials to take appropriate measures to save people from the cyclone, which is likely to hit the coast. He asked them to form into teams and inspect areas which are prone to floods brought by cyclones. He said that essential commodities should be stocked at the rehabilitation centres to avoid scarcity on demand.
In Visakhapatnam, the district administration geared up to meet any eventuality arising out of the cyclone.
