Hyderabad: Sleuths of South Zone Task Force on Saturday apprehended a former cooperator’s husband for allegedly collecting money from gullible public under the guise of selling motorcycles at cheaper rates.
According to Additional DCP, B Limba Reddy, the accused Syed Abed Ali alias Feroz Khan alias Arshad, 46, of Yakutpura, was detained on charges of duping public by giving them false promises to get two/three/four-wheeler vehicles at cheaper rates. The accused told the people that he could influence the vehicle auctions conducted by police department by using his (fake) official position.
He claimed to be a sub inspector at Chandrayanagutta and Begum Bazar police stations. Cash receipts worth Rs 96,700 and cash of Rs 22,000 including two mobile phones were seized from his possession, said Limba Reddy.
During the course of interrogation, Feroz admitted to committing crime. He would befriend local residents by assuring them of getting vehicles at cheaper prices and giving receipts for the collected money. He was also involved in similar offences under the limits of Medak and Chaderghat police stations.
His wife, Saba Kausar, was a Corporator of ward No 20, Badabazar, Nawabpet, in Medak district.
