Employee pockets mortgaged gold in finance company

Anantapur: An employee who has misused the trust of his superior and clandestinely stolen about five kilos of gold, worth Rs 1.15 crore belonging to the customers, has finally landed in jail.


Vikram was an assistant manager at Manappuram Finance Limited at Raju Road here. The manager trusted Vikram who was closely associated with all the employees in the company and handed over all responsibilities to him.


Taking the advantage, Vikram started stealing gold ornaments one by one that were pledged by clients and maintained the records since a few days. Manager found out that a few gold ornaments were missing from the locker of a client and informed senior officials and police on Saturday.


Police kept a vigil and found out on Saturday night that Vikram was the culprit who swindled gold jewellery worth Rs 1.15 crore.


They said that Vikram has given some of the gold to his sister and kept the remaining gold in the lockers of a few private banks. He resorted to gambling and cricket betting with the money he got on these gold ornaments.
One Town CI Gorantla Madhav and SI Dharani Kishore said that a case was filed against Vikram and investigation is on.


Meanwhile, the clients complain that Manappuram Finance Limited in Anantapuramu city is not returning their gold even after paying the total amount.


A client, Sujata of Anantapuramu pledged 20 gms gold at Manappuram at Saptagiri Circle about one year ago and took a loan of Rs 35,000. She was surprised when she was given ornaments other than what she had pledged after paying the principal amount with interest to the company.


She refused to take them saying that they were not her gold ornaments and insisted on getting her ornaments which led to heated arguments between her and the company staff.


The company officials told her to get the receipt and design model of her ornaments from the shop where she had purchased them.


Irritated by the negligence of the staff, she called on the media and staged dharna at the office.
