Hyderabad: The media point at Assembly turned into a battlefield, when the YSR Congress Party MLAs protested the bifurcation process by burning the copies of AP Reorganisation Bill and TDP MLAs tearing the copies in bits of pieces.

Within few minutes of the Assembly session on Monday, after the Bill was introduced, several MLAs from YSRCP and TDP rushed to the media point raising slogans. In a counter move, the TRS MLAs tried to prevent their counterparts from tearing off the copies of the Bill. This led to blows between the two sides. In the melee, TRS MLA M Bhikshapati threw a chair at the YSRCP MLAs. The police had tough time to separate the MLAs. They later cordoned off the area by creating two rope parties.

To add fuel to the fire, the TDP MLAs D Uma Maheshwara Rao, D Narendra tore down the copies of Bill, while speaking to media. Observing this, G Kamalakar TRS MLAs tried to stop them doing this amidst huge presence of Police. Later the Police officials and Marshalls tried to control the situation by cordoning off the media point and making a shield of rope. Minister K Jana Reddy demanded that the Speaker complete the process of discussion within 15 days and to call for BAC meeting immediately. Reddy expressed worry that the situation may go out of hand in the State, if the MLAs continued to behave in unrestrained way in the Assembly premises. In the council too similar scenes were witnessed. As Seemandhra MLCs including two women legislators, N Rajakumari and Samantakamani came to the media point and were about to tear the copy of the Bill, TRS leader Swamy Goud and other tried to stop them. In the jostling that followed, Rajakumari fell down. Samantakamani claimed that her saree got torn off.

An angry Nannapaneni lashed out at Telangana leaders and even demanded Goud’s arrest for disrespecting women. She later lodged a complaint with the council chairperson Chakrapani. On the other hand, Swamy Goud maintained that he was only trying to stop TDP MLC from tearing the bill and apologised for the incident. Nannapaneni also took objection to a query from journalist of vernacular daily about TDP’s confusing stand on Telangana issue with party MLAs from Telangana and Seemandhra going in different direction. She responded that it was not necessary for her to respond to questions by all and sundry.

Interestingly, Swamy Goud and others lighted incense sticks and offered puja to a copy of the T Bill at the media point.
