Eluru (West Godavari): Samaikyandhra supporters allegedly threw eggs at the convoy of Union Minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao when he visited the Chintalapudi area, in the district, to participate in the foundation-laying ceremony for a 100-bed hospital and a BC welfare hostel. The police prevented the eggs from hitting the target—the Minister.

They raised ‘go back’ slogans against Rao at the old bus-stand , while alleging that the Centre was going ahead with the process of Telangana formation after he delayed in taking a decision to resign, in response to public demand. They accused him of ‘selling self for the post’ and letting down the Samaikyandhra moment.

Taken aback, Rao resorted to abuse of the demonstrators, who included several YSRCP activists, describing them as ‘good for nothing’. This only incited the crowd, who raised more slogans with renewed vigour. The police, who intervened to defuse the tension, lathi-charged the crowd, as they were set for a clash with them. The YSRCP activists fell down in the incident. The police allegedly acted in a high=handed manner with former MLA and YSRCP coordinator Maddala Rajesh, hitting him with lathis and tearing his clothes. He and 19 other Samaikyandhra supporters were arrested and ‘forcibly’ taken to a police station.
