Ready to quit, all options open: CM, Kiran Kumar Reddy, Telangana Bill, Chandrababu Naidu. When asked if was planning to quit the post and launch his own party, he said that his political future was not important for him.
- Doesn’t rule out launching political party
- ‘I haven’t changed my stand as Naidu did’
Hyderabad: Indicating that he was keeping all his political options including quitting from the post of Chief Minister soon after the T Bill is introduced in the Parliament, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday said that he was ready for any sacrifice including facing disciplinary action if that would help in keeping the State united. He also did not rule out the possibility of floating a new political party.
In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Kiran Reddy said he had absolute faith in the Constitution and was certain that the Bill would not go before the Parliament. “I am not pinning hopes on Pranab Mukherjee. I am looking towards the Constitution and I am sure in a federal set-up a Bill that has been rejected by the State Assembly will not be sent to Parliament.”
When asked if was planning to quit the post and launch his own party, he said that his political future was not important for him. All that mattered to him was the future of the State.
He said the process of bifurcation was not happening in a proper and scientific manner. It had not been referred to any judicial committee, parliamentary committee nor had a state reorganization commission been constituted. So far, there was no clarity as to why the Centre wanted to divide the State and how it would benefit the two States.
Such a flawed Bill was sent to the State Assembly and that was what the Seemandhra people and leaders were opposing. The Centre should have sent the bill which it would be introducing in the Parliament to the Assembly, Kiran said.
Chief Minister said if the State was divided equal justice should be done to all regions. In this case, instead of justice being done to all the regions, the centre is poised to create new problems. The issue of bifurcation should not be linked to politics and the state should not be divided only for the sake of politics, he said.
Explaining the constitutional position, Kiran said the Bill which had been rejected should be referred to the Union Cabinet and after that it should be sent to the President of India. It should be referred to the Parliament by the President only after he examines the views of the Assembly and is fully satisfied that the Bill should be introduced in the Parliament.
In a scathing attack on the Centre, Kiran said, “Unfortunately some people are branding him as Seemandhra Chief Minister but the Centre is acting in a partisan manner and is behaving like representative of people of Telangana.
We have to blame everybody for the present situation,” he added. He also lashed out at TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and said that unlike Naidu, he would never change his attitude. “I am a strong integrationist and I am fighting on behalf of 75 percent of the people who are opposed to division,” Kiran said.
