President’s Rule only option as election of new CM is difficult

Hyderabad: In view of the fast paced developments in Delhi and the decision of the Union Cabinet to introduce the T Bill in the Rajya Sabha on February 12, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is said to be mulling to quit on the same day in protest against the Centre’s refusal to pay heed to his demands.

According to sources, the issue figured in the meeting of the Core Group held in Delhi on Friday evening. It is said that AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi had expressed his ire over the attitude of the Chief Minister and is learnt to have asked the party leadership to take action against him.

However, the party has two options before it. One option is to sack him and the other to persuade him to resign. If the party high command decides to sack him it will have to impose Presidents’ rule as the party is not in a position to hold the meeting of the Congress Legislature Party to elect a new leader. Moreover, with just two months to go for the elections, no one may come forward to shoulder the responsibility.
