Medaram (Warangal): The devotees from across Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states are rushing towards Medaram in Tadwai mandal in the district as the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara is set begin on Wednesday.

The roads leading towards Medaram are seen swarmed with the vehicles of all kinds including bullock carts carrying the devotees on Tuesday. Hundreds of APSRTC buses are shuttling up and down the road to transport the passengers.

The historic three-day jatara begins with the arrival of the deity Saralamma from Kannepalli village, about 6 km away from Medaram in Tadwai mandal to the temple altar (Gaddelu) on Wednesday. The day also marks the arrival of other deities Nagulamma, Govindaraju and Pagididdaraju.

Ritualistic prayers will be offered by the tribal priests before bringing the deity Saralamma. Nagulamma and Govindaraju will be brought from Kondai in Eturunagaram mandal and Pagididdaraju from Punugonlda in Kothaguda mandal.

The tribal priests carrying the deities have already embarked upon their sacred journey and are walking towards Medaram with the accompaniment of a multitude of devotees.

In a similar manner on Thursday evening, charged with devotion, the tribal priests bring Sammakka from the sacred Chilkalgutta hillocks located at a distance of about three kilometres from the temple altar.

With the main deities adorning their places on the altars the jatara in its fullness come to life, on Magha Shudda Pourmani also called as 'Sammakka Punnami' in local parlance, on Friday. On Saturday, the priests take back the deities to their places of origin indicating the conclusion of jatara. All the important officers of the district administration like District Collector, police bosses have already reached the jatara site and will stay put till the end of the event. Medaram village and surrounding areas are surging with ever increasing crowds flowing into the place from all the sides. Meanwhile, the devotees coming from Warangal faced difficulty as traffic is jammed on a stretch of about two kilometers between Pasra and Govindaraopet villages. The traffic police swung into action and cleared the traffic. The endowments commissioner Udayalakshmi accompanied by Mulugu MLA Seetakka offered prayers at Medaram Gaddelu.
