New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh BJP President G Kishen Reddy was at pains to explain that there was no change in the party stand. Kishen Reddy said Sushma Swaraj had told him that she was only expressing her anguish over the events in Parliament on Thursday. It did not signal any change in the party position on Telangana.

In a bid to clarify the party position, Kishen Reddy said Sushma Swaraj told him that if a debate had taken place in Parliament, she would explain the party’s consistent stand on Telangana. If voting takes place, the BJP would vote for the Telangana Bill, he said.

Kishen Reddy condemned the incidents that took place in Parliament on Thursday, saying it brought a bad name to the State.

Kishen Reddy demanded stern action, like filing of criminal cases and debarring them from contesting elections in future. Besides, they should be deprived of privileges and perks available to ex-MPs. He requested Speaker Meira Kumar to initiate stringent action and if necessary, President Pranab Mukherjee should intervene, he said.

Even as he was explaining the party positition, Seemandhra Students JAC and Seemandhra Intellectuals Forum of Chalasani Srinivas staged a dharna in front of the BJP headquarters at 11, Ashoka Road, in the capital, demanding a review of its stand on Telangana.

The protesters raised slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai.’ The Seemandhra activists vowed to meet all important leaders to enlist their support against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

Chalasani Srinivas recalled the statements of Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj that the BJP would have no talks with the government on the Telangana Bill and the statement of NDA Working Chairman L K Advani that the Congress-led UPA government had created a chaotic situation on the Telangana Bill and now the government should only pass Vote-on Account.
