Central sops an eyewash: Naidu, N Chandrababu Naidu, eyewash, bifurcation state. Addressing the media on Friday, he said the Union government was also not clear on the establishment of capital city for the residuary state of AP in the Bill.

Hyderabad: TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said that the special status for the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh and special development package announced by the Centre for Rayalaseema and other backward districts in Coastal Andhra were an ‘eyewash’ and was not enough for the reconstruction of the Seemandhra after the bifurcation state.

Addressing the media on Friday, he said the Union government was also not clear on the establishment of capital city for the residuary state of AP in the Bill. It requires Rs 4 lakh crore to Rs 5 lakh crore to set up a capital city on a par with Hyderabad with world class infrastructure. The Centre had not made any commitment in this regard.

The TDP leader questioned the Centre about the steps being taken by it to address the financial crisis being faced by Seemandhra after the bifurcation. It is estimated that the Andhra state would face Rs 17,435 crore revenue deficit per year. The Centre’s assurance to provide financial assistance to Seemandhra was also not clear because the 14th Finance Commission should endorse the requirement.

The fate of the Seemandhra State after the division was hanging in balance with the Centre’s failure to address the main challenges in the areas of education, employment and infrastructure. Naidu alleged that the Centre did not provide adequate compensation to Seemandhra deliberately to strengthen the YSR Congress Party, and thus humiliated the people. The Congress wanted to make YSR CP chief Jaganmohan Reddy as ‘Seemandhra hero’ and TRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao as ‘Telangana hero’ for its political gains.
