Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday announced new Excise Policy-2014-15. There is no major change in the new policy as compared to what was in vogue during the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh.

According to the new policy, as many as 4,380 wine shops would be thrown open in the new state of AP. Interestingly, the government has invited applications to open nine liquor outlets in seven mandals of Khammam district, which would be submerged under Polavaram project. These mandals have been transferred to Andhra Pradesh through an ordinance recently.

According to the policy, the six-slab system would be continued in finalising annual license fee for each shop.The new wine shops would be thrown open from July first week. Wine dealers will also be allowed to establish permit rooms in the towns by paying Rs 2 lakh additional fee.

The method of selection for the grant of shop licences would be by draw of lots. The period of licence would be for one year. In addition, the licensee should pay privilege free at 8 per cent plus applicable VAT on the invoice value of liquor purchased during the licence period. The Excise and Prohibition department officials said that the government targets to earn Rs 10,000 crore through liquor sales as against Rs 8,000 crore last year.
