Naidu calls for action plan to reduce infant mortality, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the officials to submit a detailed action plan to reduce infant mortality and maternal mortality rates in the State and reduce malnutrition among women and children.

The Chief Minister reviewed with officials of Women and Child Welfare Department at his office on Tuesday. He directed the officials of Medical and Health, Women and Child Welfare and SERP to work in coordination with each other in planning and delivering the services.

Commissioner for Women Development and Child Welfare Neelam Sawhney explained about various measures taken for reducing mortality rates among pregnant women and children.

Naidu also reviewed the various schemes and programmes being implemented by SERP in the areas of capacity building, self-employment, skill development and creation of micro-enterprises. He advised them to create awareness among women on various programmes and schemes being implemented for them.

Need to link Ganga, Cauvery: AP CM

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said development of agriculture could be achieved only by linking Ganga and Cauvery rivers in the country.

Speaking at a function organised on the occasion of 112th birth anniversary celebrations of Kanuri Laxmana Rao (K L Rao) at Kamma Sangham in Ameerpet, Naidu recalled the yeomen services of the great engineer and announced Dr K L Rao birth anniversary would be celebrated as Engineers Day in Andhra Pradesh. He called upon the young engineers to emulate Dr Rao who was the architect of various irrigation projects in the State.

Stating that the Polavaram project would not result in any loss to anyone, Naidu said the government would do justice to all the Tribals, who would be displaced, by rehabilitating them properly. He said no one should politicise the issue.

AP Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao, former minister Shobhanadeeswara Rao, MLAs Gandhi, Maganti Gopinath, Madhavaram Krishna Rao and others were present at the function.
