Hyderabad: The MLA quarters allotted to Andhra Pradesh Legislators were left idle as the members were not ready to occupy them citing lack of proper civic amenities. They said the precincts were ' filthy ' and unfit for residential occupation.

Under the AP Reorganisation act -2014, the MLA quarters in Hyderabad were divided on the basis of representation of the number of legislators from two States. AP has been allotted 154 quarters of the total requirement of 195 (which included MLAs and nominated members). So far, only 50 legislators occupied the quarters and the remaining 125 members were yet to submit their requisition form to the Assembly Secretariat.

The quarters for the AP members were allotted at S1 block in Adarsh Nagar and at Erramanzil and Panjaguta in the common pool. The officials said that all of them were found old and in bad condition. The S1 block was not connected with proper drinking water and drainage facility and also there was no power back up facility as provided to other blocks allotted to Telangana State MLAs in the same premises.

The members whoever visited the quarters were not satisfied with the facilities provided in the houses and turned down to occupy them.

Cutting across the party lines, all the members simply evaded to stay in the quarters, the officials of the AP Assembly said. Quarters at Erramanzil were under pathetic condition as no maintenance staff was appointed to oversee the arrangements.

The MLAs Amenities Committee Chairman G Rammohan Rao told The Hans India that majority of MLAs were not interested to reside in the poorly maintained quarters and instead they preferred to stay in rented houses in the city, if necessary.

Each MLA was being given Rs 25,000 HRA per month if the member did not stay in the allotted government quarter.

The Committee already held two meetings and asked the MLAs to submit their letters for the allotment of quarters. Except 50 members, all the other 125 MLAs did not show interest to take the quarters.

The committee would organise the last meeting on August 2 to finalise the allotment of quarters if any member came forward, Rao said. The other reason for not occupying the quarters by the members was some of them wanted to stay in their own assembly constituencies. The members were of the opinion that residing in Hyderabad had no meaning after the division of State.
