Krishna river’s backwaters, boosted by inflows from the Almatti and Jurala dams, flooded the temple.

As the river water was entering the temple, Veda pandit Telukapalli Raghurama Sarma performed the ‘jaldivas’ puja. The first such puja was performed after the temple surfaced on April 14 this year. According the Puranas, the temple remains under the Krishna water for eight months.

Devotees worship the presiding deity and Siva lingam in the temple. Saturday’s puja marked the culmination of the ceremonies, which is a 12-year-old practice. ‘Homam’, ‘yagam’ and ‘kalyanam’ were performed for 118 days.
