Hyderabad: The AP government is making all out effort to improve the school education in the State. As a part of it, a multi-faceted strategy had been developed. The plan included proposal to seek help of NRIs and corporate houses for improving infrastructure in the schools. The government in turn would name the schools or classrooms after the donors.

Announcing this at a press conference in his chambers, Minister for Human Resource Development and Higher Education Ganta Srinivasa Rao said the government was not only exploring avenues for funds but also the participation of responsible citizens and corporate bodies in the school education.

In order to augment the teachers' strength, the Minister said the DSC notification would be issued on September 5 on the occasion of Teachers' Day. About 10,600 teacher posts would be filled. They include posts of 1,849 school assistants, 975 language pundits, 185 PETs and 7594 secondary grade teachers. This would be biggest exercise ever taken to fill the vacant teacher posts in the State. “This was also part of the Telugu Desam Party manifesto,” the Minister said.

The government was keen to improve the standard school education in the State which had fallen abysmally low during the last 10 years. The Minister said the “badi pilustondi” launched in Anantapur and concluded in Nellore on August 2 had evoked good response from the people. There were 31,286 dropouts in 13 districts and of them 25,923 were enrolled again in a week's time. The remaining students would be enrolled in a special drive to be conducted soon.

He said efforts were also on to improve basic facilities in the school and biometric system for students and teachers would be introduced in Visakhapatnam shortly.

The Chief Minister had suggested that Pratibha awards be presented either by the President or Prime Minister. At least four teachers in each mandal would be selected for the award and cash component would be considerably increased, he said. In addition to this, the children of these awardees would be given free education in the best of schools and colleges, he added.
