Power generation was resumed in Srisailam hydel project on Monday after the project received heavy inflows from Krishna river from the upper riparian State, Karnataka.

Further, the Telangana State government generating power from the power generation centre located on Srisailam Left Bank canal in Mahabubnagar district. The installed capacity of the project is 700 MW.

The officials of the Telangana State Energy department said the government could tide over the power crisis to some extent with the support of the AP government. The total power demand in Telangana is 5,500 MW. With the supply of power from the neighbouring State, the gap between demand and supply would be contained to 1,000 MW as against the 2,000 MW shortfall witnessed so far.

“The official meeting held between the Irrigation and Energy departments of the two States broke the deadlock over the supply of power after the AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reacted to the agitation of farmers in Telangana and directed the officials to help the neighbouring State.

The quantum of allocation of power from Central Generation Stations (CGS) to Telangana was also increased from 3,000 MW to 3,200 MW which was a big relief for the State from the increasing power demand in the ongoing Kharif season.

The officials said that the proposal to impose additional power cuts for domestic and industrial sectors was withdrawn as the gap between power demand and supply reduced drastically after AP agreed to supply power from its generating centres.
