Dr Ramineni Foundation awards on October 12, The US-based Dr Ramineni Foundation announced its annual awards at a meeting here on Thursday.

Vijayawada: The US-based Dr Ramineni Foundation announced its annual awards at a meeting here on Thursday. Son of Dr Ramineni Ayyanna Chowdary, on whose name the foundation has been named, Ramineni Dharma Pracharak, told the media that the foundation will present one ‘Visista puraskaram’ along with three ‘Visesha Puraskarams’ at an event to be organised on October 12 at a convention centre in the city.

Pracharak said the foundation had instituted awards and scholarships to encourage school children of government schools in Guntur district to continue the legacy of Chowdary, who moved to the US in 1955 to work as a professor of economics. During the last 14 years, the foundation honoured eminent persons from various fields for their valuable contribution to society and several students from across Guntur district, like Brahmana Koduru and other rural villages, he said.

The ‘Visista Puraskaram’ will be presented to director of Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Dr Ch Mohana Rao. The three ‘Visesha puraskarams’ will be awarded to veteran Journalist and writer Potturi Venkateswara Rao, eminent stage actor Achanta Venkata Ratnam Naidu, Stage and Cinema artist Rallapalli Venkata Narasimha Rao. Along with the award, Rs 1 lakh for the ‘Visista’ and Rs 50,000 each for ‘Visesha’ puraskarams will be given away.
