The 139th birth anniversary of former deputy prime minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on Friday. Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ at Nalanda Vidya Nikethan, which culminated at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium on Mahatma Gandhi Road.

The unity run saw huge participation from various schools and colleges

Addressing the gathering, Srinivas said that every individual should get inspiration from the Iron Man of India, who integrated the erstwhile princely states with India after independence, and strive to uphold the integrity and sovereignty of the country.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken up the Statue of Unity Project in Gujarat as a fitting tribute to the Iron Man of India,” Srinivas said, describing the former deputy prime minister as the true architect of modern India. Later, he administered a pledge to the participants that they would strive to uphold the unity and integrity of the nation.

Andhra Pradesh Grandhalaya Parishad chairman Turlapati Kutumba Rao lauded the vision and statesmanship of Patel.
