Visakhapatnam: While launching Haritha Visakha here on Monday, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced umpteen promises to make the city a logistics hub, international tourism Centre and a smart city.
Addressing a press conference before winding up his whirlwind tour of the city, the Chief Minister said he would preside over the affairs of Visakhapatnam Development Authority by nominating himself as its chairman. “Vizag with its picturesque beaches has won my heart and I am determined to develop this city as one of the best in the world,’’ he told the media persons. The Visakhapatnam Development Authority would be constituted after discussing the subject in the Cabinet on Tuesday. A consultant would also be appointed to design a special master plan for the city. The existing Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority would remain same but the scope of VDA would be extended.
“We will have Metro rail and special infrastructure will be created with underground communication lines. Hence we need a separate master plan,’’ the Chief Minister said.
Giving brief details, he said a service duct would be created in the city through which power lines, water pipes and telecom lines would pass. Pushing these lines underground would give city a, aesthetic look. Laying power lines in the service duct would alone cost Rs 1,450 crore, he added.
Regarding tourism, he said all the projects would be put on fast track and the Visakhapatnam-Bhimili Beach four lane road, which was initiated during TDP regime and shelved later, would be completed in one year. To increase the air connectivity, the Chief Minister announced that a green field airport would be constructed close to the city which would be far better than Hyderabad airport.
Answering several questions on inadequate succour to the slum dwellers, the Chief Minister said losses were being estimated and the funds would be transferred to their accounts in two to three days. So far rations worth Rs 255 crore was distributed free to the people of these three districts. Regarding housing, he said 2,000 model colonies would be built with all infrastructure facilities with the help of corporate sector.
On Central assistance, he said the government had received part of Rs 1,000 crore announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Earlier, he held a review meeting with the Collectors of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam on the cyclone reconstruction.
Naidu said all the saplings being planted as part of the Haritha Visakha, the ambitious mass tree plantation programme launched by CM will be geo-tagged and monitored on a regular basis.
“Earlier we used plant a sapling for a photo opportunity and by the time it was published in newspapers, it vanished,” he said and added that now the programme would be monitored closely.
After planting a sapling at MVP Colony, here, the Chief Minister said each and every plant would be geo-tagged and periodically monitored by the officials and even the public. With a soft touch on the cursor on smart phones or tabs, one can see the plant, its growth, location and the person who planted it.
The Phoenix IT Solutions developed the programme.
Naidu said the software would be synchronized with the Google Maps for more convenience and suggested that the people update the progress of plantation programme. The photographs can be uploaded to onevizag.org. “Those who send maximum updates would be rewarded,” the Chief Minister announced and added that pollution and temperature would also be monitored online.
The project was initiated by Pheonix IT Solutions under its ‘Cityzen’ campaign with CSR funds. The Chief Minster suggested that the CEO and managing director Pheonix IT Solutions Murali Krishna Gannamani take this as a pilot project and later expand the service to cover the entire State.
