Nellore: The Nellore district police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested four notorious red sanders smugglers. The police skilfully monitored the movements of the alleged international smuggler Amburi Krishna alias Sai alias Chari and nabbed him. Along with him, the police also arrested alleged smuggler Mekapati Subba Reddy, Eega Sambasiva Reddy and Nanannpureddy Eswar Reddy.

Along with them, the police arrested 15 labourers engaged in felling trees.

The police and the Forest officials were combing for the allegedly smuggler for last four months. They were accused of felling red sanders indiscriminately in Kadapa, Nellore and Chittoor districts and smuggling them.

The police said Amburi Krishna had amassed more than Rs 100 crore illicit assets. Krishna, who hailed from Nellore city, used to smuggle red sanders to foreign countries. He reportedly purchased properties with the money illicitly earned through smuggling of red sanders. He has two houses in Nellore city, lands in Sangam mandal and financed a textile factor owned by his brother.
