Anantapur: The issue of crop loan waiver has ignited verbal battle between the MLAs of Telugu Desam and YSR Congress at Zilla Parishad general body meeting here on Tuesday. YSRCP MLA Visweswar Reddy demanded the members to take a resolution waiving off farmers’ loans of about Rs 7,000 crore in the district. Responding to his demand, TDP district president and MLA Parthasaradhi said YSRCP, which declared that loan waiver was impossible, had no right to talk about this. He also demanded a resolution to be taken congratulating Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu who implemented loan waiver despite tight financial situation in the State.

Reacting to this demand, YSRCP MLAs Visweswar Reddy and Chand Basha insisted that they would support unanimously if only the Rs 7,000 crore loans are waived off keeping in view the special situation in the district. This led to heated arguments between the members of both the parties.

MLC Geyanand questioned the use of toilets without water in schools. He also asked Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy to explain about the action the government would take against the officials who have been misguiding people’s representatives with erroneous statistics since six months.

The MLC proposed continuation of employment guarantee scheme in all mandals in view of the drought conditions in the district and the ZP general body meeting unanimously supported.

Alleging that 45 farmers committed suicide in Anantapur district after Chandrababu Naidu became the CM, YSRCP MLA Chand Basha demanded the CM, who cheated the farmers, should own responsibility for this. Reacting over this, Minister Palle said that farmers’ suicides began during the tenure of Congress itself and Chandrababu’s loan waiver would support the farmers. MLA Visweswar Reddy said that the public voted for TDP believing his poll promises. “We are requesting implementation of Chandrababu’s poll promises only,” he added.

District MLAs, ZPTCs and MPPs unanimously took a resolution to provide drinking water, employment guarantee, and fodder immediately. A resolution for continuing the employment guarantee scheme in the district also was taken. The people’s representatives requested the government to give special package and funds to the district.

MLAs Varadapuram Suri, Hanumantharaya Chowdary, and Parthasaradhi, MLC Samanthakamani, ZPTCs Rammohan, and Ravindra, MPPs Ismail and Krishnamurthy, Joint Collector Satyanarayana, ZP CEO Ramachandraiah and district officials participated in the meeting.

Later speaking to the media, Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said that loan-waiver announced by CM Chandrababu Naidu was unprecedented. He said that water grid would be arranged soon in the district to provide drinking water to all and electronic cluster near Chilamatturu would be set up soon to provide employment to about 10,000 youth.
