Guntur: A two-day secrete visit by a Singapore team in the capital region –Thulluru, Tadeaplli and Mangalagiri mandals in Guntur district – on Friday and Saturday took the farmers by surprise. The State government kept the visit of the team in the capital region under wraps. The team of experts from Singapore was found visiting Amaravathi and Thulluru on Friday and some other areas on Saturday. It may be recalled that the TDP government on December 13 last year executed a well-designed plan by arranging aerial survey of the capital region by the Singapore team.

  • Issue came to light when they held talks with Joint Collector
  • They collect details regarding trade activities in Guntur district

The government, it is speculated, could have decided to take the Singapore team round the capital region secretly in the face of spirited resistance being put up by a section of farmers against the move to “snatch” their farm lands. The farmers even met BJP president Amit Sha, during his visit to Vijayawada on Friday, and complained against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu that the latter was snatching their farm lands. But their representation to Sha evoked only lukewarm response, the farmers rued.

With the farmers meeting leaders of the opposition parties and sending representations to the Prime Minister and others, the State government seemed to have decided to ensure that the visit to the capital by experts from Singapore passed off unnoticed. The visit by the three-member Singapore team came to the notice of the people when it held discussions with Joint-Collector Sridhar. The team members, for the reasons best known to themselves, collected data regarding the trade activities in chilli and number of cold storage warehouses and spinning mills in Guntur district.
