Gudur (Nellore): Villagers of Tiruvengalayapalli in Gudur mandal here are living in a state of fear as people, both aged persons and kids are confining to their beds due to spate of high fever cases for 15 days. Villagers are worried as the number of patients affected by high fever is on the upswing. So far, 100 villagers were identified with high fever and there are hardly 200d Dalit families in the village.

Since there is no hospital, Chennur Primary Health Centre is providing medical OP services to the villagers. All the villagers are agriculture labourers and daily bread-earners. Due to lack of proper medical facility in the village, the fear-stricken villagers are rushing to nearby towns for the better medical care.

But, they are not satisfied with the treatment. The fever seems to subside when the patients are under medication. The locals fear that the fever could turn epidemic and affect the whole village. However, the doctors dispelled such fears and said that the symptoms of patients did not show epidemic characteristics and the fever could be because of the changes in the weather.

The spread of fever was suspected because of the absence of personal cleanliness, hygienic surroundings and lack of supply of safe drinking water. The Panchayat officials were also not paying attention towards the clean surroundings, the locals rued. The locals want government authorities to take immediate steps to curb the high incidence of high fever in the village.
