Jagan throws down gauntlet at Naidu

Hyderabad: Leader of Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly threw a challenge to the AP government to sever ties with the NDA and withdraw its ministers from the Union Cabinet. He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu should also drop BJP ministers from his Cabinet.

Jagan, who was upset over repeated jibes from the treasury benches during the discussion on motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, challenged Naidu to pull out if he felt the Centre had not done justice to the state and was not properly implementing the AP State Reorganisation Act 2014.

Jagan said the ruling party was making baseless allegations against him and was alleging that he had not done anything to put pressure on the Centre. The YSRCP president said he had visited Delhi thrice and met the Prime Minister, Union Finance Minister and the Union Railway Minister and submitted memoranda seeking liberal help to the state.

As the leader of Opposition there was not much he could do. It was for the government to put pressure on the centre and get maximum benefit. But soon after the Union budget Naidu had said on many occasions that the BJP had not done justice to the state. If that were the case he does not find any reason why they should continue to be part of the NDA government.

Modi best pm ever: Naidu

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi describing the latter as the best Prime Minister the country had ever seen since Independence. Naidu said Modi had earned world-wide accolades for his leadership qualities. He said it was after a 26-year gap that people had voted a government with full majority identifying a visionary leader in Modi. The Chief Minister’s comments came as a reply to Jagan’s challenge that TDP should withdraw from the Union Government. Naidu said both the TDP and BJP had fought against illogical bifurcation of the state. BJP leaders M Venkaiah Naidu and Arun Jaitley fought for certain assurances for the residual state.
