Tirupati: Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture Mahesh Sharma directed the regional director of ASI (Archeological Survey of India) in Hyderabad to send a proposal for the reconstruction of the Vakulamatha temple at Perur, near here.In a communique to the ASI regional director, Mahesh Sharma asked him to hold discussion with Chittoor Collector and SP on the steps to be taken up to stop the illegal stone quarrying around the temple to prevent further damage to it, which is in precarious condition due to quarrying.


He also instructed the regional director to send proposals for proper fencing of the temple. The copy of the letter to the ASI regional director which was sent to BJP state party spokesperson G Bhanuprakash Reddy at the behest of whom the Union Minister visited the dilapidated temple on April 26.


Bhanuprakash Reddy while releasing the copies of the Union Minister’s letter to the media here on Saturday reiterated that he would continue his efforts till the reconstruction of the historically important Vakulamatha temple, which has a unique place in Hindu mythology as shrine of Mother of Lord Venkateswara.
