AP to give nod for private varsities
The Andhra Pradesh government is all set to give its nod for setting up private universities in the State in the Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on Saturday. Official sources said that the issue was top of the agenda of the Cabinet, in line with what Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has announced, earlier about setting up specialised universities on water, aqua sports and the like.

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government is all set to give its nod for setting up private universities in the State in the Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on Saturday. Official sources said that the issue was top of the agenda of the Cabinet, in line with what Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has announced, earlier about setting up specialised universities on water, aqua sports and the like.
The private universities would be established entirely by private entities or through Public Private Partnership. Till date the government has received 15 proposals expressing interest from several individuals and groups for setting up universities in the State. Taking this into consideration, the government wanted them to establish these institutions in the educational cluster or hubs, proposed in Vijayawada, Tirupathi, Visakhapatnam and few other suitable places.
The Cabinet would also discuss the irregularities that took place in the implementation of housing for the poor in the last 10 years and action to be taken against those responsible for the same. A decision on sanctioning funds for the construction of two lakh housing units during the current financial year, as well as special housing scheme for those affected during the Hud Hud cyclone would be taken.
Besides, leasing barytes and other mines, the Cabinet has also on its agenda to deliberate on the energy sector, including steps to be taken to encourage solar energy and non-conventional energy sources in the State. Several other issues such as Section 8, Schedule – X institutions listed out in the AP Reorganisation Act and opening new bank accounts for the same are also likely to be taken up.
