Madanapalli: Agriculture Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao has assured to bail out the drought-hit farmers who lost their crops due to continuous dry spell. The Minister along with MLCs G Muddukrishnama Naidu, G Srinivas and officials on Thursday visited the villages in the mandals of Pileru, Rompicherla, Somala and Chinnagottikallu in Madanapalli division to interact with the drought-hit farmers.

The Minister inspected the dried-up Chinnagottikallu tank, weathered crops and parched fields in these mandals. In Chinnagottigallu, farmers asked minister to take steps for bringing the Talakona (waterfalls) water to their village for irrigation purpose. Interacting with farmers at Peddagottikallu (Rompicherla), Mudupulavemula (Piler), Pothuvaripalli (Kalakada) and Mahal in Kalikiri, the Minister asked the farmers not to worry about the adverse conditions and assured them that soon the government would declare these mandals as drought-affected and provide relief package from Centre to the affected farmers.

The Minister asked the farmers to adopt micro irrigation methods like drip and sprinkler systems which are suitable for cultivation in dry areas, to ensure optimum usage of available water. At Mahal, Pulla Rao inspected the feed and fodder distribution to farmers. He also distributed fodder under `Sunandini’ scheme, fodder seeds and horse gram seeds to farmers in Pothuvaripalli (Kalakada). Addressing the farmers, he said that the loan waiver scheme will be extended to another 4.10 lakh farmers in the third phase. Agriculture joint director Nirmal Nithyanandam and others were present.
